Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Currently working with the Systems team, maintenance of the systems on board such as HPSW, LP air. bilge and sullage systems, oil/water separator.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
some extent, give an insight of the various departments in the dockyard

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
yes, some hand skills but not as much as i had hoped for

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
not that well, quite poor as Highers have to sort out their own placements with not much help from mentors as i had hoped for. not enough training on basic hand tools/skills that would have been beneficial before starting placements. wished for a bit more support in that, and the time in the SDC was wasted as we could have used that time to gain basic bench fitting skills for people who may not have any or much experience
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
from my current line manager/previous managers i have had a lot of support with any questions/queries i have had. from my mentor not as much as i had hoped, could have had a bit more support when choosing placements.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
not much support, can definitely have more support on choosing placements and other questions
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
HNC is beneficial but can be more beneficial in terms of having more work related courses that will actually benefit us in the base, not just basic maths, science knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
i have heard of events at the start of my apprenticeship but not much after that, it would have been nice if there were more sports/activities involved.
