Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a trainee accountant, I prepare accounts for various companies and their corporation tax, sole trader, partnership, and personal tax returns, and regularly communicate with clients and HMRC to resolve queries and ensure compliance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy coming into work and the study that goes along with that, i have been provided with the necessary support when it has been needed, and always feel like people want me to succeed. The team is very supportive and it's a place I look forward to working
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Starting with no prior knowledge, I’ve been taught fundamental skills in accounting and tax, including bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and tax returns. I’ve developed my understanding of accounting standards and policies, improved my communication with clients and HMRC, and gained lots of skills using accounting software's and managing deadlines.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well structured with lots of support and accessible videos online. I have easy access to contact tutors when needed, and always get prompt responses. The online support provided is also beneficial not just to study but work as well
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I've been supported well by my employer, with them noticing when I have struggled but also being there when I pass too. I am able to have conversations about my study and not feel like time is being wasted, and also have the option to work flexibly to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The study and revision classes are great and provide lots of knowledge. When I contact them for support they are very quick to answer and help. If I don't contact I don't tend to hear much from the provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training provider offers something called skills days - which are hugely beneficial to my role as an accountant, teaching my fundamental skills such as leadership, managing team effectiveness, communication, working as a team and much more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is all of the above, that Old Mill offer to the employees, we tend to have a few social activities that help with team morale and bonding. I have seen others join half marathons and football teams as part of Old Mill and networking events are always going on

Yes
Why?
There is a good family atmosphere, the work is challenging but not to a level that can be stressful. They help with the work-life balance and have lots of in house support that you can get if needed
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Old Mill?
Show yourself off, a big thing with Old Mill is their company values: Lovely to work with, passionate, and open minded. They truly do help if your own values work with these.
