Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I shadow qualified engineers to learn their methods and skills when it comes to assembling aircraft and engineering, I submit work to test my knowledge of the job to my academy supervisor and have regularly monthly reviews of all the progress I am making.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am a big fan of the program I believe it is a great chance for people to enter into a worthwhile and great business, there are very little times when you are not supported and given chances to do something. On occasion something may go under the radar however they are in general great.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new skills and knowledge on the job here a BAE, both in general engineering and in the specific aeronautical sense when it comes to constructing parts for an aircraft.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is quite well structured and seems to run very smoothly for all apprentices, the transition from the training school to the actual workplace is done well, you are well taught and prepared for what it will be like with plenty left to still learn when you enter it.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot off support from the company, there are avenues to turn down at every corner no matter your issue, they like to have a healthy and happy work force as that is what is best for production and business so they make it one of their top priorities to see precautions are put in place and safety and support are given.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a great deal of support from my training provider if I ever struggles with a topic I was allowed and encouraged to ask for help, they are very keen on having the best workers so they want to educate you to the best of their ability.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel learning things from trying to reach my qualification helps me greatly when I work as it helps to explain why I do some tasks which I previously would of wondered about it makes me feel like my work has more purpose than I would of done had I not been learning it.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are extra curricular activities you can do and join at BAE personally I don't partake in any as they don't interest me however there are many enrichment activities that I do which I find more stimulating

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I think it is the best decision I could of made, I could of gone to college or a different apprenticeship but I believe this one has given me the highest chance to succeed through both knowledge taught and opportunities offered.
