Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a survival equipment specialist in the Royal Air Force, I will work on servicing and maintaining survival equipment that will be loaded onto aircraft so that they are ready for operations. My apprenticeship in preparation for this role has me undergoing a variety of theory & practical based subjects, such as mechanic and electrical hand skills, along with human factors comprehension to ensure that I will be ready to carry out my role within the RAF.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme very much, due to the variety of subjects we are undertaking and the way its split up so we also have a lot of time to ourselves, as well as time for sport and exercise alongside our studies and practical work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, even though I'm only two months into my apprenticeship, I have developed a lot of skills such as hand skills, using a variety of equipment and also a lot of health and safety procedure. Alongside this I'm also now trained up on human factors and how I can ensure I'm most effective in my job role with communication and team work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured, thanks to the teams that provide the training and the programme co-ordinators who ensure that the course is carried out to a correct time scale.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is always support available 24/7 should I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The staff that provide the training are all specialists with a wealth of experience in their subjects, so are always ready to provide any support needed when working towards my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel like I'm covering absolutely everything I will need in my qualification so that I will be ready to carry out my job role effectively.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there's a very large variety of sports teams and social activities available. I'm part of the golf society currently and also use the gym facilities on site almost daily.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RAF to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The level of training that you receive as well as the extra benefits available is second to none and the pay scale is fantastic. Very good working environment whilst also having plenty of time throughout and after the working day to do what you would like with your own time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RAF?
Come into it with an open mind and take every opportunity that is offered, it doesn't matter if you know little about the role you want to undertake as you will be trained up from scratch.
