Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as a Junior Advisor, which involves the management of a small list of client, I prepare and review accounts and corporation tax computations as well as senior on audits. I have a high level of client contact helping to advise them on both company and personal tax issues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed being an apprentice with Old Mill, I am given time to carry out my work as and when needed and have been given support from direct manager when I have needed help. I feel that I have developed my knowledge and skills as a result of my manager's support and them giving me new tasks to carry out in order to help my development when they are able to.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since being on my apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills, both technical skills through the statutory work that I carry out but also soft skills through meeting and dealing with clients on a daily basis. I have had to have conversations with clients surrounding fees, tax liabilities and issues we have encountered, which can sometimes be uncomfortable conversations. However throughout the course of my apprenticeship I have been supported by my managers to develop these skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship has been well set out with my provider, First Intuition lay out all the days that you are required to attend study well in advance and communicate what is required of you very well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer has been incredibly supportive throughout the apprenticeship process, my manager regularly checks in with me to ensure that I am on top of my workload and ensures that I have plenty of time to carry out any further assignments for my apprenticeship along side my job role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I have 12 weekly check ins with my learning provider, where it is discussed how I am getting on with apprenticeship both with myself and my manager. First Intuition make it very clear that when support is needed that I am more than welcome to get in contact with my skills officer and they will assist me to the best of their abilities.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Throughout the process of my apprenticeship I feel that each exam that I have passed has helped me to consolidate my knowledge of that area of accountancy within my job role. I feel I have become more efficient in my work as my understanding has improved of what I do in my day to day role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Old Mill has multiple opportunities to get involved with social activities. There are two firm wide social events each year, one at Christmas and one in the summer, there are then social events for each team and office which are organised on an adhoc basis. There are running clubs that you can join and regular networking events that are put on to meet other professionals in the area.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Old Mill to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Old Mill understand that everyone needs a good and healthy work life balance, whilst there are pinch points in the year where work load is heavier, they are very conscious that their employees take time away from their work throughout the day and ensure that employees are happy both at home and in work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Old Mill?
I would recommend making your career aspirations clear from the very start, this would allow Old Mill to place you within the correct team to help you achieve your goals, which is something they are very proactive on.
