Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I rotate around teams within my engineering programme. I work with Systems engineers to learn the role within BAE and learn how to complete the work required for the programme. I conduct and listen in on meetings and update data in spreadsheets, that go towards technical specifications for our products.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme as it supports our national defence capability. I'm proud to work on a project that is engineered for the future, and is inclusive of young mindsets and technological advancements in industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt what systems engineering is and why I should progress into a career in this function. I have been doing systems engineering courses as well as completing tasks that get me to think with a system engineering mindset.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is always growing, and our capability and structure is always changing. My team is well structured and there is clear direction throughout management.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I am allowed time out of my working hours to complete off the job work/training. They help me find academic support within the company and are working towards setting up academic support schemes.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider has great facilities and organises a 1 day release to study. They have a great HE support structure that are available to support me with whatever I need. The academic support is available, small classes means I get 1-1 from tutors if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My study gives me engineering knowledge that lays the fundamentals for my role. My role and study are not always directly linked, however the more I learn about Electrical and Mechanical engineering, the more helpful it is within some of my placements at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
BAE offer professional networking sessions from time to time. The offices are set up so that teams from across the programme work closely together so are likely to network. Team away days are common, they bring together certain engineering functions and get them involved in more social activities.
