Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Completing Engineering based tasks within my placement to either benefit the business and/or improve my skills and behaviours as an engineer. This could involve modelling components in CAD and forming assemblies to be further analysed. I could also run meetings to discuss optioneering tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I overall enjoy my programme however there are some inefficiencies which can be irritating. I enjoy my work placements and all my colleagues ensure I have support and understand my work and I am comfortable with my workload. College isn't the best requiring more work on my own.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes. I have gained many technical skills throughout my placements so far. This includes CAD skills, engineering maths and report writing. I have also gained 'soft' skills like the ability to present and speak in public and the ability to convey my ideas clearly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is well organised. I know all of the placements that I will be on and I know my salary schedule.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My colleagues provide lots of support. We also have skills coaches and an early careers support team who are available to contact if support is needed. They also run check in sessions to cover any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We do receive some additional support with extra revision sessions being run leading up to exams. We can also contact our tutors with any questions or concerns. The quality of our teaching isn't the highest and students have had some issues with this which isn't always addressed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
So far I have noticed no overlap between college and my work role. The maths hasn't applied or been used in any of my placements and any software used at college are different to those used in work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are occasional social event for apprentices. I have not been made aware of any other activities that would be of interest to me.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Enjoyable work placements and planned placement and salary schedule.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be prepared to do more college work in spare time to make up for not the greatest teaching quality and working in an unfocused class.
