Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In college currently i am completing the subjects of maths, project, health and safety, mechanical and electrical principles, CAD, drawing and design, communications, organisational efficiency and materials. On site we are looking at the disciplines and i am hill and outfit so shortly will be beginning training for this.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My time at college i have found challenging due to changes in tutors and other complications but overall i’ve enjoyed my role on-site and I enjoy the current training i’m taking part of that is to do with my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to use CAD systems such as foran. On outward bound i also learnt to do things such as raft and i developed my orienteering skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

At college, i have felt that some lessons have felt very unstructured due to new tutors and many other factors however our on-site curriculum feels much more organised and structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Currently i haven’t had to reformer support from my employer however i do know that there are teams in place such as the college liaison team, skill coaches and people on-site.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

At college, i have felt some lessons have lacked support but BAE have sent people in to try and bridge these gaps and catch us up so I do feel like we receive support,
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

So far, my college work has helped me to understand the engineering standards needed for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As i’m in first year there aren’t any extra curricular opportunities.

At the moment there are lots of opportunities for jobs within the business and it’s a very important and interesting line of work to be in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Get involved and don’t be scared to ask any questions. Also there are so many opportunities so take them as it will help you progress within the business and your career.
