Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Assuming the role of IAW QR J642 Para 3.
Ensuring that they comply with the requirements of QR J642 Para 3.
Act as rescue climber for personnel WAH and select appropriate safety equipment.
Ensuring that tasks are carried out IAW good engineering standards and practices, relevant maintenance documentation, policies and SOP’s.
As a member of a team, install, maintain and recover antenna systems, support structures and associated feeder systems.
Comply fully with health and Safety regulations.
Completing all necessary paperwork as required by current unit policy.
Take a full and active part in continuous improvement of safety, health, quality and engineering standards within their AOR.

There are clear opportunities for career progression and personal growth, which makes it a great long-term career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RAF?
My advice for anyone applying to the RAF would be to really prepare thoroughly, both physically and mentally. Make sure you research the role you’re applying for, understand the RAF’s values (Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence), and be ready to show how you align with them.
Fitness is a big part of RAF life, so keep on top of your physical preparation early. During interviews and assessments, be confident but humble — they’re looking for people who are resilient, adaptable, and work well in a team. Finally, show a genuine motivation to serve; passion and commitment stand out a lot during the selection process.
