Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Executing library procedures and basic testing for the 'execute' stage of the audit. Engaging with clients and requesting documents from them. Helping out more senior team members with the simple elements of their tasks.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given complete autonomy and never baby-sat. I completed procedures that were reviewed and given feedback so I was wholly responsible for any tasks I was set until the point of review.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I've learnt my companies' specific applications and wordings. I've learnt how to interpret the 3 financial statements and countless financial definitions. I've developed my confidence by engaging with people of all levels from associates to senior managers.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Everyone was incredibly friendly and I constantly felt supported. My colleagues of all levels would sit down with me and spend time guiding me and my line manager would always direct me to the relevant person if I was stuck. I had a career coach and a buddy who both supported me and regular catch-ups made me feel as though I was part of the team.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
We had many socials due to a surplus social budget due to covid. This meant I attended almost a social a week, which I thoroughly enjoyed. We also had diversity and inclusivity initiatives and seminars and I undertook a social action project alongside my client work to give back to the local community.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed it due to the incredibly welcoming work culture at my company. It exceeded my already high expectations and I intend to take the graduate role offered to me.

Be yourself and let your personality and good traits shine; having a personality isn't frowned upon as long as you're presenting yourself well. Do your research on the company and be confident the role and company you're applying for actually interest you, or you'll go down a path you don't enjoy and inevitably not reach your potential!
