Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Leading and supporting across multiple projects throughout the business unit I work within. Projects that vary in size and complexity dependant on business needs/demands.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my experience to date and enjoy the synergy between real-world working experience and a formal education delivery, for me this is one day a week of online or in-person university study with the remainder of the week in placement activities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have increased my knowledge and understanding across all aspects of project management, both technical and soft skills are tracked and monitored with my future placements reflecting any skills gaps to ensure development across a wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs)

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Overall the structure works well, but due to the variety of inputs required to deliver our programme some elements could be improved further.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support from the business is excellent, from the early careers team through to my line manager, all involved have my personal development at the heart of their focus.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As mentioned we have 1 day a week with our training provider, with additional sessions that can be requested but overall I feel that as this is the first year of undertaking the degree through this provider that some elements are still being worked through.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the synergy between the formal learning and the application in real-world projects and company activities is absolutely spot on! I think that I have developed massively in comparison to traditional routes.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We are encouraged to undertake stretch activities which involve all of the above, but as the site I current work from is smaller in comparison to other areas of the business we have less social clubs for me to attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a fantastic place to work, somewhere that challenges you in a very supported environment. Allowing you to test yourself in a safe place, but whilst also allowing you to work in roles that have benefits for the business unit.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Remain open minded, regardless of your prior experience before joining the business. Understand that the application and interview process is tough but it ensures that people joining have a real desire to achieve the best they can.
