Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently working in the financial accounting team, supporting the accountant, the account receivable team & the accounts payable team. In the second half of my apprenticeship, I will work in the financial planning and analysis team- gaining experience in both departments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have learnt so much it has been really enjoyable so far. All the skills I have learnt will be so valuable in my future career. The team are great, nice and supportive.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills. I have learnt how the financial accounting team works. I have learnt about fixed asset depreciation, journaling, paying & receiving funds. I have learnt how the transactions are processed and allocated accordingly. I have learnt new excel skills, and about reconciliations. In addition how the payroll department works.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well organised. I work on a few different areas. When more work is added, it is a manageable amount. It is well structured because I am doing half the apprenticeship in financial accounting and half the apprenticeship in financial planning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive support as and when needed. The whole team and my line manager are very supportive and informative when I need to ask questions or require support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider is great. Kaplan offer great tuition and I can reach out to them if I am stuck and require assistance on something.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

What I learn in my studies is applicable to my job. For instance debits & credits when allocating payments and journaling.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes- we have social evening once per month and more broadly in the organisation there is a summer & winter party. I have also ran the marathon, a place I got through my organisation.

Why?
The support and knowledge gained through my programme has been so valuable and I would recommend the organisation to anyone interested in finance. It also is a great place to work due to the people and the place.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Historic Royal Palaces?
Just go for it! It has a great community feel, with varied departments and people so there's lots to learn about.
