Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Engage with the community by conducting high visibility patrols, arrange community events, conducting school visits, Dealing with ASB, contacting victims of crime to provide safeguarding advise and assisting the PC's in their investigations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Have enjoyed the practical side completely and to my surprise really enjoyed the classroom phase too which is a massive credit to the trainers to make it enjoyable and understandable for everyone even if academia isn't your strong point.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed much better communication skills to deescalate situations and have gotten a lot better at assessing best approach with different people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure for me has worked very well as there was a break in the classroom phase where we went on shift for a week to see the role in action and start to have our own experiences to relate to in the the next part of training
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There was always someone on hand to help when needed, the team was very supportive even when it felt like was asking a daft question
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Was in regular contact with the training team to ensure I was understanding that I needed to achieve.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Very good to get a level 4 qualification ensuring everyone hits the same standard but due to how the role is so different in each are and it being a very practical role I don't think its completely necessary to make you good at the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
One of the very first inputs during the classroom phase was about the sports and social community and how much it is encouraged due to the nature of the job, a culture of being a family is massively encouraged

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Northumbria Police to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Really good people, brilliant support network in training phase and when in the role full time, rewarding job of helping people when they are struggling and pay is good to, can have a good work/life balance.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Northumbria Police?
Understand the job does have its down sides but the good far outweighs the bad and even on the bad days the team around you will get you through them with a smile on your face by the end.
