Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Senior qualified accountant who reviews accounts and tax returns and manages clients for a team
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Currently on a break of study but when physically studying I enjoy it to an extent. Hard to get a balance of work and study.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes, every day I develop my client manager skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very structured and well organised
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Not as much as I would like, we aren't given the easiest option for study i.e travelling a couple of hours each way every day is very tiring, especially when we are supposed to get study and homework done in the evenings but can sometimes get home and no real time before going to bed ready for the next early morning. The option of staying closer to the training provider is rarely given. Support from my team is good but HR support on getting set up was stressful and not as good as it could have been
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Quite a lot, regular check in's, face to face annual meetings, regular emails to remind us of due tasks. Always available to help if we have a problem
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Somewhat, as I am a more senior role it is harder for me to find things that I can develop or try for the first time, but my training provider is very good at suggesting things to try.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes some

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Old Mill to a friend?
No
Why?
I personally have found it has been a better place to work in the past, but I struggle at the moment, I think they can sometimes struggle with appreciating and valuing it's employees and supporting them. I do believe there has been a lot of change that has caused it to be a more unsteady place to work at the moment. I also think they sometimes lack clarity on role responsibilities and it can mean you are expected to do above and beyond your role as standard, for little recognition.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Old Mill?
To establish a clear understanding of your role, what is expected of you and a clear path of progression. To set boundaries of responsibility and being strong and raising concerns when necessary.
