Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Assisting the financial services team in their audit of large Australian asset management company's subsidiary in the UK. This meant working with google workspace to gather evidence for the audit, often meeting up with the client virtually and having regular check ins with the team. My responsibilites were to ensure a sufficient amount of evidence was collected before the review stage done by my manager. I even got to visit the team in London!
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given some responsibility as I engaged in client meetings and prepared agendas for the meetings, so it was important these were up to scratch for the meeting. It was mainly independent work though where I was left to manage my own time and work and with this came certain responsibility as I needed to complete my exercises promptly so that the audit could be cleared in time by one of the senior managers

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
At the start of the internship, there was a full week's induction and training. This included talks from current graduates, managers and even a partner on the roles and responsibilites in audit and the way that pwc works. It also included lots of self-directed online learning. In terms of what I have learnt, it has mostly been audit based skills as simple as even what an audit is, and basic excel skills which have been valuable

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was within a team based in London, Chennai and Bristol, and despite having no one clear line manager, the team all supported me with certain exercises. In addition to this I had a buddy and a career coach. I only met my buddy once and I did not really understand their role but I met with my career coach a few times for check ins and for her to understand if I was a good fit.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture seemed nice, lots of interns at the same time as me so there was a good network of people in the same position as myself. They offered us all vouchers for restaurants and cafes to take each other out and build good relationships which was nice. It does seem to be very hierarchical though as everyone is aware of everyone else's credentials and what that gives them in terms of responsibility but otherwise good.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I did enjoy it to a certain extent, I was interested by the company and what they might offer to a graduate however I am not sure the role was well suited for me. I suppose the internship was good in this way as it let me learn what i do and don't want to do for a career. There were highlights though such as the trip to london and team lunch out in the city

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Make sure you know what you are applying for and what you are getting yourself in for. Audit was not for me and I found it tedious but I am sure there are other roles which are really interesting and so you should do your research properly before applying. Also just be relaxed as it is a very friendly accessible place where there are lots of others in the same situation as you are as an intern
