Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I engage daily with various stakeholders of the project; from the client team, consultants and subcontractors. Daily task will include valuing change and managing valuations and variations, conducting measurements and quantification. Along with this I am also involved in many reporting exercises of varying topics.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
At the current point in time, I am thoroughly enjoying the programme. It allows me to engage with the wider workplace in ways that would not be available elsewhere. There is a good communication system allowing me to stay connected with other apprentices, as well as being able to reach out if needed.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt an array of new skills through my job, accounting skills along with enhancing my ability to use excel and fiscal systems which I had no prior knowledge of. Alongside technical skills, I have enhanced my interpersonal skills and confidence amongst the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The organisation and structure of the programme is very good, there are minor flaws with my portfolio however this is minor when compared to the consistency elsewhere. There are monthly/frequent development sessions that provide exposure on topics myself and other apprentices would not be involved in typically.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer provides a very good support network should I come to need it. This is from a daily level up to more senior level. I would be able to reach out to various people for support for a variety of reasons and feel understood.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider has good online applications to support me. However, my skills reviewer has been unavailable for a number of months this has led to me being moved to someone else who is extremely busy. Despite this my lecturers are available through teams should I require any support with topics in class.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification provides me with knowledge around subjects that I cover in work. There have been numerous times where I have been able to fulfil a task more effectively due to prior knowledge gained in Uni. Although at points my course can refer to residential markets too often which does not necessarily relate to commercial construction.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My work has a broad spectrum of extra-curricular activities that I could get involved in. There have been many of charity football tournaments or 5-a-side tournaments between project teams. Along with post work networking events with varying groups, apprentices all the way up to sectors.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
From my initial experience the work environment is extremely engaging and the support from colleagues is unmatched. This has supported me in my development and would recommend working here to anyone who was interested in a career in construction
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
Be curious, there is no such thing as a silly question. Within the first few months of my time here I would be taking notes in meetings all of which were questions for people once I got out.
