Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Business degree apprentice: change rotation every 6 months, currently im in an area where I go to Business meetings daily and offer updates on issues, check stock on non conforming product, email suppliers regarding these issues, Responsible for MRB in Goods In for supplier quality
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I do enjoy my programme, as it does give me a sense of accountability, and does teach me about business, in a business environment. However it would be a lie if I said it didn't come with some negatives. The jump from being in 6th form to a functioning company was much bigger than i couldve imagined, at first i did really struggle, as in school you are mechanised to work soley for yourself, and the results will go your way. This is much different in a business where you are working for the business benefit and not your own. Being involved in a global business also comes with high stress scenarios which at times can become overwhelming

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt skills in many different aspects, ranging from social to independent office based skills. For example i have found myself in some confrontational situations, and have learnt how to stay composed and how to still try and control the conversation. I have learnt many new skills on our companies main software called TipQA which is used to track parts, and their Non-conformances. I started not even knowing it existed, to now operating it everyday.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
My year is the first year for a new model, so that has obviously meant there has been some bumpsn in thr road. For example the scheme changed universities from Coventry to Gloucester, this meant that the course altered slightly and meant that we didn't start university after 3 months in the company, but instead 9 months in, this was only communicated to us in the first week. Which although it isnt that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, it was still different to what we were expecting
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We get strong support, for example we have weekly check-ins which are optional with our employer, and a mandatory one every month, in these sessions we are allowed to share whatever is bothering us and definitely is comforting to have our line manager are also very supportive and understanding on knowing that we do also have external responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I do not start my University until September, but what I've heard from other years is that the support at the previous university was better than the one we have switched to.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Once again I haven't started my qualification yet
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are loads, which are strongly advertised, those which I have decided to join are very supportive and welcoming.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As they do look after you as an employee, which is the most important aspect for jobs. Your job security is much better than most over jobs. It gives you room and the pressure required to develop, whilst also giving you many benefits outside of the workplace, such as discounts on gyms and so on.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
Be honest and be yourself, as you will be found out quickly if you try and be something your not. If your meant to be a part of the GE team, then that will be spotted and I'm sure you will be a part of the team, if not its not a stain on your dignity, it just means your most likely more well suited to a different kind of working environment
