Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In day to day role I talk to customers & give advice. I would give them tips and help them find their 'dream holiday'. Whether it be a family holiday, honeymoon, solo travel or a quick city break, we have it all covered and I can help with that. When i take an enquiry, I load it onto our system so that we can keep our customers in the loop with what's going on behind the scenes. I can take enquiry's through face to face chatting, Facebook, emails or over the phone, which is great as we can keep it touch so easily. I also work in the FX side of the business. This can be taking currency orders, counting large amounts of money or simply finding the rate of the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot as I have met so many amazing new people and gained many new skills. I also get so many experiences that I wouldnt have gotten without this apprenticeship. By going to conferences, meeting new suppliers and having training with other apprentices, my knowledge and confidence has grown and i'll always be grateful for this as they are lifelong skills to have.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
When i first started my role in Hays Travel, I can say that i was very quiet and shy, but since I have came out of my shell and really showed myself to my colleagues and customers. This doesn't just show in the business but, outside too. i find that working in Hays has boosted my confidence in so many ways and given me a real insight of what working can be like. I have also developed my Math and English skills simply by writing daily emails and speaking to customers. Counting money and finding out customers' balances have developed my math skills, which is just great to have in general. My Geography knowledge, has also greatly improved as I complete trainings on this. This is great for when speak to customers as I will know exactly where to send them and which supplier to go to.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The program is very well structured in terms of branch days and training days. They slowly enter you into the business which was great for me as i was very nervous. We always have at least one training day a week which is a great time to reflect on what you have done in branch and then put what you learn into action. My L&D coach, is the best as she is always there if we need a hand. She is very well organised and knows exactly what she is doing, which helps us to be organsied too. She explains everything for us in great detail and makes sure we understand before moving on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have many ways to reach out for support at Hays Travel, but the main one i would focus on in the Apprentice support programme. This is for apprentices that feel they need to talk to someone but dont know who to talk to. Its good to know if i ever want to speak to someone, I can give them a call.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have a lot of support while working towards my qualifications. If im ever behind or trainings or tasks, I can let her know and get it rescheduled. Its great to not have to worry about meeting deadlines when I have been very busy and it takes a a lot of stress away.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My training sessions contain a lot of information, while these are happening, I will take notes so I can look back and review. This is good because what i learn, i can re-read in branch and apply it whenever needed. Such as dealing with complaints or even just information on a location. Working towards this qualification really gives me a boost because i know all of my hard work will be worth it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many social activities in place that I can attend through Hays Travel, such as, supplier conferences, ship viewings and quiz nights. These are great because I can meet new people and learn new information, which can then be applied in branch.

Why?
Because they have a great reputation for apprentices and give you so many opportunities throughout the time period.

To be organised and dont stress. Being organised is a key skill when you would at a desk with multiple customers at a time and im glad to say I do have this skill. It is also very easy to get stressed when you never really get a minute so just keeping calm, take your time and have fun!
