Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a finance analyst intern I'm working in the Treasury department in Capital and Leverage Management Team. I'm part of the planning and stress testing centre of excellence where we monitor the bank's capital requirements and predict how these change both with the expected conditions and under stress.
Day to day I'm meeting lots of new people, asking them about their role in the bank and helping on various projects, such as Bank of England stress test and mid-term planning. Also we have intern specific projects like a group project (non-finance related) with other interns and a personal project into our particular team.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

A good amount of responsibility; I've rarely felt stressed so far and my manager is very aware of not giving me too much work which is nice. His main aim for me is to network with people and said that any work I complete should actually be second to that!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Definitely improving time management skills as we book in all our own meetings by looking at other people's calendars etc. Also communication as it can be quite different in a corporate / professional environment to uni.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Really good. I was surprised by the friendly atmosphere of the place. Everyone is very welcoming and happy to sit and talk to interns for meetings to give them advice. It's a nice place to work.
