Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
The role involves performing admin duties, finding and selling holidays, selling foreign currency and buying it back and keeping the shop neat. It also involves dealing with different situations such as issues with suppliers, complaints and answering a variety of questions that customers may have for us
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoyed it after I moved to the Livingston branch, I enjoy selling holidays and speaking to people.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I’ve learned how to sell holidays and perform admin duties, I’ve not done much foreign exchange

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship itself is well structured, there isn’t always the best communication between training and branch but overall it’s a good way of learning when you are in the correct environment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I don’t think I received much support before I moved to the livingston branch from my employer but after moving I definitely feel a lot more confident in the job role and that if I need support it’s there.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutor is brilliant, he answers any questions I have and helps me where needed. He’s great at coming up with a plan for everyone to help them get through it at their own pace and support them in the areas they need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification we are studying in the apprenticeship is basically just a ‘how to be a travel agate’ course so I’d say it ties in well seeing as we are learning about the products we sell and the standards (both in the company and legally) that we are held to.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
We have other trainings on specific destinations but these are a company wide thing.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hays Travel to a friend?
No
Why?
I didn’t have a great experience in the original branch I was in and due to my age I don’t think the pay is worth it because when we started we were earning £1004 a month, after bills and things you don’t have anything left.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hays Travel?
Make sure you definitely want to go into the industry, it’s a lot of information to take on board and the apprenticeship is hard work for a while. You need to be able to balance your time between course work and your job role and you need to be able to adapt to different people and able to build confidence speaking to people. It’s a great industry and it’s never boring but it can be a lot to take in sometimes because it’s ever changing.
