Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Selling/booking holidays and currency and the admin that goes along with that.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy working in the industry but as I am a bit older I felt a bit like I was going back to school. I think the training side of it could be more fair for all age groups as some of the training can be a little tedious and aimed at a younger audience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I had never been in sales before so I have learned so much, selling skills, destination knowledge and supplier knowledge

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Once it kicked in it has been very well structured but the beginning was a bit chaotic, the hiring process especially
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support, I have a trainer and my branch manager, who have both been a great support to my apprenticeship journey
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A lot, we have regular training sessions and chances to review our journey and discuss what we want out of the apprenticeship. We have monthly check ins with our mangers and 6 weekly visits from our trainer, along with regular training days.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I think it could definitely be more flexible, focusing on the groups needs as we all have different areas we need help with, whether that be sales skills, destination knowledge or supplier knowledge. Some of the criteria covered as mentioned before is suited to a school leaver but we have a range of ages studying
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
yes I have done a lot of professional networking and supplier training days which have been a great help

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hays Travel to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a lovely company to work for, especially the Basildon branch and as they are an independent travel agent they offer so much choice which makes the job easier and more interesting.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hays Travel?
If you love travel, have never done sales before they are definitely the best choice to get into the industry. Other companies want experience or the very least sales experience which if you haven't got it makes it impossible to get your foot in the door. Hays is full of opportunity
