Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Being face to face with customers. Communicating with various tour operators and other professionals. Being a dream maker not an order taker. Finding the perfect holiday for each individual. Answering phone calls and emails. Completing admin tasks. Keeping up with shop standards. Completing coursework for my apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I feel that I am learning so much during my time here. I also work with a fantastic team who will support me through whatever I need.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed on my Geography skills. I now understand the different systems we use. I have developed my communication skills (over the phone/Email/Face to face). I now feel more confident to push a sale.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have worked with two trainers during my time here, ( my primary trainer), they are fantastic at what they do, writing their PowerPoints, delivering them and supporting us through our work. They make every training day informative while also being fun and giving us their personal experiences of when they have been in our position (learning the job). They understand when we are struggling with something and sit down with each of us individually to explain how to overcome this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I am supported everyday by my manager. She regularly checks in with me, to see how I am getting on with my work, but also in general. If I have any questions then everyone in my shop is happy to help answer them or help me find the answer. When dealing with customers if I am unsure of something then there is always someone close by who can advise me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I feel very supported during my training. If I am ever unsure or confused by a task in store then I can just drop them an email and they get back to me with an answer as soon as. Whilst in training, all questions are welcomed and answered, even if it's a silly one.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like it's helping me develop because I have gained so much product knowledge, and selling skills that I now feel confident in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes we regularly have trade nights that we can sign up to. This is were Travel agents will go to an event and meet and talk to various different tour operators to learn more about their products and the way their company work. They are fantastic for networking. There are also opportunities for Ship visits (Cruises) and sometimes tour operators will also come and visit us in store during work hours.

It is a fantastic opportunity to learn so many new skills. You will meet so many interesting people who have been in the business for years. It is a fantastic company to get involved with and with all the perks, you won't regret it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hays Travel?
Do It!! You won't find a better apprenticeship and all the training is done in house so the support is endless!
