Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day-to-day as an apprentice could look like visiting sites with engineers to observe current progress of a project or existing stations. You could be working in office where you are supported by other workers, graduates and apprentices in higher cohorts to learn and complete tasks related to a specific project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I very much enjoy this programme. Every week I learn something new, I meet new people who share so much knowledge with me, and I generally feel more confident as an individual. There is so much support from everyone.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have been able to develop simple skills such as writing a formal email and improving my communication skills by attending meetings. I have also gained new skills, especially related to engineer practices, this includes learning new software which aid engineers when working.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure is good. Apprentices have six months on a placement within a team related to your scheme. You are placed with a new placement manager every time you move to a new placement, who is there to support you along the way.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support, you have a buddy who is an induvial in higher cohort on the same scheme as you. You have a mentor who is a worker from TfL which supports you and have typically been in the industry for a long time. You have a Line manager who supports you for the entire duration of the scheme and a Placement manager for each new six month placement you start. In addition, the training provider LSBU has individuals who support you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Every three to four months you have a review meeting with an individual working with the training provider, LSBU, where you review your progress on the scheme so far, what type of work you have been engaging with and your next steps. The reviewer gives detailed feedback during this time on your OTJ records and shares resources with you which contribute to KSBs.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Very well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are many things to get involved in from football teams, running clubs, socials after work, networking events etc..
