Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Completing Sole trader, Partnership and Ltd accounts. Working on Audits. Completing general admin tasks and liaising with clients. Assisting with VAT returns and charity accounts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really enjoying my time at Walter Dawson & Son. All of my colleagues are extremely supportive, helpful and patient when teaching me something new. I look forward to coming to work and am enjoying the subject at college.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my communication, attention to detail, patience, confidence. I have developed my computer skills through the use of different software and knowledge of accounting both through work and college.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

At the start of each week, I work with my line manager to create a structured list of jobs to be completed, ensuring I always have something to do and can manage my time efficiently. My weeks are also structure as I attend college on a Wednesday each week.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive so much support from both my employer and fellow colleagues. There is always somebody in the office to help me if I'm stuck. I also have frequent 1-2-1 meetings whew I can discuss any issues that I may have, as well as receiving feedback for my work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support at college, especially in the lead up to exams. Plenty of revision materials and practice exams are provided to ensure I feel confident when sitting the exam. Because I did not complete level 2 AAT, I have the option of extra support from the staff at Kirklees.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The information taught at college has come in useful at work as I feel to have gained a deeper understanding of the job. I also think that doing well in my exams has helped to improve my self-confidence and therefore improved my performance at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At Walter Dawson & Son, we complete charity events to make money and raise awareness for varied charities. So far, I have taken part in a bake sale which brought together staff and clients. We also have awards evenings and team building evenings for both our office and company wide.

Why?
Walter Dawson & Son is an incredible place to work that offers apprenticeships for multiple levels. I get on really well with everyone in my office making my days enjoyable and I therefore look forward to coming into work. The support offered is amazing and I have felt welcomed to the company since the first day.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Walter Dawson & Son?
Ensure you make full use of the resources offered, including the other staff members. We have phones that connect offices so it makes it easy to get help and information from more qualified staff members. Communication is so important in this line of work and Walter Dawson & Son fully utilises that.
