Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My apprenticeship offers annual placement rotations in Defence Equipment Support (part of MOD). I have worked in various places but currently am based in Corporate Communications delivering internal support to the whole of the organisation. I specialise in some areas including Corporate and Regional Sites but support with everything. This includes coordinating events, creating products videos and other assets, and writing communication plans and articles for our intranet.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my time on the programme. Whilst it has not been without its challenges and I have definitely been stretched both academically with my degree and professionally at work, it has made me the person I am today. I have built up a great CV I would not have had the chance to otherwise without the apprenticeship and I have a breadth of opportunities and pathways available to me now as I come to the end of my scheme. It has been a great blend of academic learning and work based opportunities. I am really glad I applied!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I joined my apprenticeship straight from A Levels/College and have seen a complete transformation in my professional skills and personal growth over my time on the scheme. I now feel confident in so many aspects of my work like stakeholder management, managing other people and strategically planning activities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme has been well structured, increasing in difficulty and challenge each year both at work and with my degree. My degree has covered a breadth of different topics helping me learn about my organisation further and got me to research or get involved in unique parts of the organisation.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has been amazing. I have a dedicated team within the Entry Talent space to look after my journey and engage with the degree provider on my behalf if required. They have given me career support and been really behind me with everything I have done.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There are regular workshop to teach content and a very detailed platform to access learning, textbooks etc to help with my assignments. Tutors are really good at replying and giving further support. We are able to attend weekly 'Office Hours' which are extra opportunities to engage with tutors and ask questions about the assignments. QA also provide us with the ACE team which is a group of English teachers to support directly with assignment writing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has provided me with rounded knowledge of the whole organisation. It has given me chance to learn not just about management and leadership, but different areas of the organisation too like marketing, finance and operations management.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have made some of my best friends at work and would not have the friendship circle without doing this apprenticeship, you don't miss out on that social life by not going to uni. There are lots of different networks and clubs to get involved with based on your interests and passions too, as well as various networking opportunities with your area of work, specialisms or the apprenticeship/graduate network.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Ministry of Defence - Submarine Delivery Agency to a friend?
Yes
Why?
MOD/DE&S have been really good at pushing me and giving me the right responsibility and opportunities to get me the right evidence for my apprenticeship and build an incredible CV. There is such a wider range of things to get involved in and it is so varied as an organisation you have a lot of different pathways to go down.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ministry of Defence - Submarine Delivery Agency?
Be yourself and think about how you can stand out by using your skills, knowledge, passions and personality in the application process. I used my passion of women's cricket and my leadership and involvement in that to explain why I would be a good fit for the role!
