Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have four placements over the course of my scheme and my role varies in the placement i am in. I do diary management, administration support for the teams i work with, security requests and safety assurance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme i am on and would recommend it to anyone. I started over in my career and it was the best decision for me as the flexibility for my work / life / family balance has improved. The work is interesting and the scheme has lots of opportunities if you want to try something new.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

This scheme has allowed me to learn lots of different skills in project management, procurement, administration and finance. I have autonomy over the work i do and have become a reliable member of the teams i work in.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I worried coming into the business that i would be a 'tiny fish in a big pond' but i have never once been made to feel like this. The structure is great to support us as apprentices and allow us to progress in the future with the training plans we can put in place. The functional managers that support us check in regularly and we have apprentice catch ups monthly too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have never felt as supported in a role as i do now. The support systems in place and the teams that we work with always ensure we have the support we need or signposted to the person / team that can help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular college interactions and training sessions. The team are also BAE so are contactable throughout the working day and easy to communicate with.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training i do is important for my role as it allows me to understand the context of the tasks i cam completing on a day to day basis. My performance and confidence has improved in my role through the support of both my teams and my training providers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are lots of extra-curricular activities available and you are made aware of these in induction week and also reminded and offered them within out apprentice forum catch ups. You can also reach out to different teams to enquire about any events and can support setting them up too. I have worked in local schools on behalf of BAE in STEM and loved this opportunity.

Why?
I feel like the work i do matters and it is making a difference. The work / life balance is great and for the first time in a job i feel like i'm not treated differently for being a parent. You are supported on this whole journey and there is lots of future progression and opportunities for those that want that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
If you have read this review this far, you already know you want to apply, the sooner you do the sooner you might get the opportunity to start! Not everyone gets in first time (including me), if you don't get in first time don't be disheartened, its an opportunity to learn more and reapply next time.
