Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
So far, I have been doing college full time and only recently doing 3 days in college and 2 days on site. In college I do assignments for these subjects, Health and safety, communications, materials, project, CAD, drawing, organisational efficiency, electrical principles and mechanical principles. The assignments are mainly reports and some have different things but not many. On site we have been doing product knowledge's so far to pick our discipline, catching up on success factors and EPA report.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy it so far. I think it the college side could be more organised and a bit better, as there is a lot of different information given to us which makes it hard to know what we need to do or when things need to be done for especially in my project lesson. On site it is much better, I feel a lot more in the business and it feels more relevant to the actual job of deisgn.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, so far I have learnt how to set out reports. I have built some team building and courage skills because of the outward bound. In our behaviours that we completed recently, we built on all of the 8 BAE behaviours, by doing different activities, some include; collaborations, adaptability, integrity and so on.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
In college it is a lot more unorganised due to wrong information given out. They also give extensions which we say we can't get done in time even to them. They don't explain things very well and it is more independent.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
They answer all the questions I have when I go directly to them or message them via the laptop. At the start it was harder to contact them as e weren't on site and we didnt have laptops.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
They help when we are asking for help. They also have help going through all the new things like setting up laptops, our pensions, our shares and how to do the work we need to complete.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The college course we are doing will give a basic understanding of what I will be doing, I don't think a lot of it directly involves design but when I do HNC i think it will help.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are college councils. There will be more when we are on site fully as they involve that like STEM ambassador where you can go to schools and talk about the apprenticeship and the role, local apprentice council and litter picking etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This is because so far my experince has been pretty good. The college part is slightly unorganised but it hasn't ruined the experience so far and I look forward to go on site as so far being here a couple days a week has been much better than college and I feel like it will be a much better experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Look into doing different experiences with them, STEM activities, Women and engineering, work experience. These will all help get an in site and shows a little bit of experience with the company.
