Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day, I am asked to help draft reports and memos as well as help coordinate with overseas offices for their input. These reports and memos would be asking us to comment on tax implications on e.g. the company using a specific structure to facilitate investments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy it!! It has honestly been something i'm glad to have chosen over the traditional university route, as I get to be apart of so many interesting different projects (not one is ever the same!). It's also really insightful to see so many developments happen in real time and how that then feeds into what we do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
As a school leaver, it has helped me develop my soft skills, for example communicating as well as my technical knowledge and expertise, although i am still quite junior in my role i feel like i have learnt a lot during my time here, and no two engagements are alike so everyday brings about something new to learn.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think it is fairly well organised! The programme assigns you to a student coach, a counsellor and a buddy in the same programme in the years above you so it's very easy to ask questions if you have anything you are unsure about. Not to mention you end up meeting a lot of the other intakes at different events!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I think they are quite supportive, as described above they assign you to counsellors and student coaches so they are there to support should you need it, this can be generally or if you might be struggling with something, they are there to provide any support and assistance as necessary.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There are things in place to make sure that you do have enough support, for example some study/exam leave or signing up for extra revision sessions. I think the biggest support however would be from other apprentices in the years above who can really share some tips and tricks to help you through.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
As for now, I have only just finished my certificate level exams so I haven't seen much of this in my day to day role but recently started the next level above. For now, they have been generally useful for example understanding what a trial balance looks like, how to read and interpret one and how that then translates into the Statements we see in the financial statements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I am involved in a social community which organises multiple events through out the year and dinners. However, there are more than enough communities to join, for example the EY Womens network and also numerous sports activities and teams such as netball, football and various other teams. We also have professional networking events come up, which can be both EY organised or external, which is great as you can always meet new people.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
EY has some of the best people i have known, whether it be due to their expertise in their particular area or their general friendliness, as a school leaver it can be really daunting going straight from a classroom environment to the office but the people here have made it really easy to just fit in!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would say just try be yourself, EY isn't looking for the same people with the same personalities and you see that once joining, there are a vast variety of personalities within the firm and everyone is pretty unique! So just try your best to stay authentic to yourself and not change yourself to the version you think others would want.
