Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a rotational apprentice I carry out a variety of administrative duties in various teams. I am currently process customer applications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship. I have been afford the opportunity to work with some amazing people and in an environment where I feel valued and recognised as an individual. The opportunity has truly changed my life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a variety of new skills and honed some of my existing ones including minute taking, report writing and data processing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My course is extremely well structured with my course and daily work seamlessly working together. Both the college and employer have provided me with an organised scheduled and have worked together to ensure that I have the best experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Council has provided me with a mentor and accommodates my every need. There is a comprehensive support network and nothing is too much trouble.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The college have supported and encouraged me throughout my course and have been on hand at all times to offer additional support and guidance when required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The course provides me with key information and skills that I can apply to my daily working, to make me more productive and efficient. I have also developed skills that will prove invaluable as I progress through my career and perform new tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The Council has number of offerings and I myself am a member of several employee forums and the chair of the Men's Forum and am a member of the Career Ambassador Network (CAN) which allows me to attending networking events as well as promote apprenticeships and careers with the Council. Social events are organised by the forums and my forum participation has seen me attend an external event hosted by a charity.

I love working for the Council and having spend many years working in the public sector, this is the best employer that I have worked for and offers so many opportunities. I truly feel valued and part of the team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cornwall Council?
Apprenticeships are a great way to start a career with the Council and you are never too old to do an apprenticeship.
