IT Business Analyst working in an Agile manner with the dynamics development multi-disciplinary team. Stakeholder management; process mapping; data analysis; requirements management, supporting testing. Main focus in on systems, and digitisation
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My apprenticeship started during Covid so all was done remotely. Being able to work and learn at the same time was great, I loved the online courses, the online exams were technically much more difficult than being in an exam setting. Fantastic mentor, portfolio is a reusable resource
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship I found I'd been using many of the skills for over 20 years in my career, so now I have a better grounding, and honed the techniques I use, while producing artefacts to a higher quality and recognised standard

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I found some overlap with the courses, and some aspects of what I was learning weren't easy to incorporate into my working, especially as it was during Covid. I believe some exam questions weren't covered in the courses and the exam company could have been better
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The council funded it, a group of us did it together including my line manager so we supported each other and opportunities were made available to ensure the breadth of the course could be covered in our work
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My mentor was excellent, he pushed me when needed, while giving me the freedom to make my own way, in my own way. AssistKD were excellent, while the exam body were not
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

By the time I'd completed the apprenticeship, we were being told that Service Design would have been better. There are members of IT who still seem to suggest that we're all just newbies having done the apprenticeship, so I don't think it's getting recognised enough
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Using Viva Engage there are social support groups and sports activities. The team I work with often organise lunches and Christmas events. My team of BAs however are very understaffed and opportunities to meet are rare, and group volunteering/team building doesn't happen

Would you recommend Cornwall Council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I love the fact that I work in a large organisation in the county I live in, to serve the residents, including myself. The scope of council functions is vast and we have lots of great staff and employment benefits
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cornwall Council?
The application process is laborious and the pay can be lower than the private sector for the same role profile, but it's work it. Change is continuous
