Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

At Old Mill, I prepare statutory accounts, tax computations, and VAT returns for a range of clients. I assist with bookkeeping reviews, and management accounts. My role involves working closely with to ensure compliance with the relevant FRS while maintaining high standards of client service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme as it allows me to apply what I learn at college in real scenarios, helping build both technical and practical skills. I find the balance between study and work rewarding, and I appreciate the support from colleagues. It’s motivating to see clear progress in my professional development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

At Old Mill, I developed strong technical skills in preparing accounts, tax, and VAT. My attention to detail, time management, and teamwork has also improved. Alongside this my communication and problem-solving abilities while working with clients and HMRC, and gained experience using accounting software.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well organised, with a clear structure that supports both work and study. There’s a good balance between on-the-job training and college learning. Regular progress reviews help keep me on track, and support is always available when needed from both sides.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer. Managers and colleagues are approachable and always willing to help with technical queries or exam prep. I’m given time to study and attend college, and regular check ins ensure I’m progressing well both in my role and with my qualifications.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive strong support from my training provider, the tutors are very experienced within there role and have always got time to answer questions. There’s weekly in-person learning, and I can easily reach out for help when needed. My progress is monitored through assessments, ensuring I stay focused and on track with my studies.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification enhances my ability to perform in my role by deepening my technical knowledge in areas like financial accounting, tax, and management accounting. It improves my understanding of complex financial principles, allowing me to produce more accurate reports, manage client queries more effectively, and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have a close knit team at Old Mill, with strong collaboration and support across departments. There are many social events that help bring the team closer together, alongside a few sports teams. Additionally, there are excellent networking opportunities within the firm & outside the firm, encouraging professional growth and relationships.
