Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in an oncology department, contributing to and being involved with research towards pipeline projects. There's always something new to learn and everyday is different! Day to day I do various experiments, including ELISAs, flow cytometry and cell killing assays, as well as data analysis and presentation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My confidence has increased hugely - both on a personal and practical level, including presenting! Also I have developed so much in my lab work over the time of my apprenticeship, to the point of feeling as competent as many other scientists.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Every science apprenticeship role differs slightly on how they are structured, some rotate departments and some stay in the same department the entire time to develop skills to an extremely high level. The university side is also well structured into the programme, allowing you time to complete everything.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
You'll have a buddy, manager, mentor and support from colleagues and fellow apprentices - they're always happy to assist with any questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I was always able to contact them by email, teams or teams call with any questions and for support. Having an apprentice advisor was also a huge help, connecting the university and work sides of things.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I felt it has been a very good supporting basis for me to then delve more into depth in certain niche areas within my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have an apprentice ran social society, with regular socials being put on of many different types e.g. drinks, punting, bowling, brunch, netball. My work department also does frequent socials. There's lots to get involved in and make great friends.
