My role involved managing my own portfolio of payroll clients, processing their payroll, submitting pension contributions, answering any payroll / PAYE queries and assisting the team with any ad hoc tasks.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

I have really enjoyed my work experience at Larking Gowen. It has provided a great insight into what the profession involves and I have gained a further understanding of what my strengths and weaknesses are. I have also developed professionally and gained more confidence in my abilities.
How well organised was your work experience?

My work experience was very organised, with a training plan provided to me for the first 2 weeks of my internship. This also allowed me to build that initial rapport with other members of the team. There were regular progress checks throughout my internship, which allowed me to gain feedback on my performance and set targets for the rest of the year.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

This experience has provided a great insight into helping me decide my career path. My manager helped to organise 1 to 1 talks for me with other teams in the firm. I was able to talk to them to find out more about their role and their motivations for their role.

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

Larking Gowen provided lots of training opportunities for me to develop my skills. I was required to complete various training courses regarding AML, data protection and ethics. I also attended training days in payrolling benefits in kind, which kept me up to date with current regulations in the payroll world, increasing my commercial awareness.

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

I gained an excellent understanding of the companys culture; it was embedded in everyday. It was clear to me that the company cares about their employees and clients and prioritises that first. Through their flexible working arrangements and various training opportunities, this provided a great environment for growth and optimal performance.

The company organised events such as business breakfasts and team social events.
