Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am part of the Forecasting team in the Financial Control function within Finance. I look at what the business has ordered, processed (at a processing centre) and has "left to buy". I can then use this among other things to forecast where Gross Margin could land between regions.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I mostly find the work that I do enjoyable, and find that the role gives me plenty of opportunities to problem solve and grow professionally. Studying for CIMA is satisfying too, but can be draining having to balance work, exams and a social life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have become increasingly compotent at Excel and Power Query. Have also learned some Power BI whilst in the role. My development has been encouraged by the business and thus I have felt that I have acquired plenty of skills that will be useful throughout my career

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have monthly development chats with my line manager, and my role is pretty well defined. On the contrary, I have been given the freedom to lead my own studies for CIMA, this has allowed me to plan ahead, and in some ways reduce the pressure.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Whenever I have received criticism in the role it has always been constructive. Although there have been times when I disagreed with it in the moment, upon reflection I have always felt it was fair. On the other hand, I personally feel that my successes have been recognized and my development supported.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

At times I have found my training provider difficult to use. However, more recently I have been able to utilise the lectures that they provide to a better degree than when I first joined.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have been able to apply the learnings from my studies for CIMA into my role as many of the concepts and techniques are directly applicable to what I do on a day to day basis.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are regular social events, both from a Finance perspective and with other Graduates who are undertaking a similar role/course to me.

Would you recommend TJX Europe to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I believe the company is a good one to work for. It has a centered, decent culture encouraged by employees with a strong work ethic and great attention to detail.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TJX Europe?

Just prepare well, research the role and the company and understand its background as well as its ethics. Use that for your interview/assessment centre etc.
