Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A range of work, preparation of tax returns, capital gains tax calculations, identifying tax reliefs available and being involved with the day to day admin of maintaining a large client base.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The L4 apprenticeship is tough, combining both off the job learning, record keeping and soft skills whilst maintaining study plans, passing exams and understanding the systems, processes and approaches of day to day work. However, ultimately is much more rewarding after each exam pass or finished job.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am constantly developing and learning new skills. This ranges from soft skills, including literacy, understanding software and processes or client communication, to more rigid skills like preparation of specific forms like tax relief claims or disclosures to HMRC.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured well. It's not without flaws, confusing aspects and I find myself with a lack of understanding on occasion, although ultimately is well founded with more than adequate assistance when needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

When asked for, help is always provided. My manager is excellent at making sure we both understand the apprenticeship and will check in with me from time to time. No complaints at all.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have an amazing coach with my training provider who regularly checks in with me, makes sure everything is progressing okay and provides great quality feedback. The training provider gives excellent exam support with study resources and guidance videos. The tutors are always on top form with good study courses.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Making me aware of the soft skills needed at work allows me to identify weaker areas and improve upon them. Additionally it identifies my strengths and improves my knowledge which helps with confidence when answering or tackling questions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a wide variety of groups that get together after work, including badminton, running, games evenings, dancing and networking events.

The firm is large enough that you have room to grow, but not so large that you feel isolated or irrelevant. It is easy to make connections, there is room for growth and there are great benefits from working here including suggestion schemes, firm outings and great support from colleagues.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Larking Gowen?
There is never just one path available to you. Larkin Gowen offers several routes, teams and specialities, so if more than one thing interests you, dont limit yourself to one path or idea.
