Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
It mainly involves communicating with managers and seniors as to what documentation needs to be carried out. This will then be followed up by a live review or I will have to address review comments. An individual can either be proactive asking for additional pieces of work or can only do what is asked of them. Your day is ultimately decided by how active you are. There may be meetings with team where status' are discussed and client meetings do occur but not in the usual day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme. My exposure has been fantastic and exactly aligned with my interests. The learning days have been very helpful and definitely been relevant and helpful in developing my skills. I have then been able to use the knowledge and skills developed every day at work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes plenty. I am now able to use excel comfortably utilising shortcuts and able to problem solve developing my own formulas to achieve a desired outcome. My emails are now a higher quality. They are now more formal, concise and clear as to what the email is achieving. My communication skills are stronger and i am more confident in addressing concerns to those above me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured and organised. I would enjoy more transparency as to what the department has to offer. This being said, i enjoy my daily interactions, responsibilities and project as it is. Everyday, i feel as if i have a plan for the day which is nice but this is ultimately due to my organisation and proactiveness.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My team are very good at providing support. Other teams are not as great. The employer is good at providing support but ultimately they are working with the best interest of the company. This is rarely felt and understandable with every organisation, but exceptions are never made therefore resulting in support never being completely unique and tailored to an individuals needs. Conversations happen where individuals support needs are addressed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
the training provider ensures that working towards the qualification is priority before work. Exams being a priority is a message I probably hear once a week. They are willing to hear support requests but I do not believe this would be acted on.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Sadly no. It is not my priority due to having a social life outside of work. It would be too difficult to balance. I know that these activities are available to me and easy to join.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They provide you with amazing skills, knowledge and exposure setting someone up perfectly to have a fantastic fulfilling professional career. The organization is huge so as long as you seek opportunities and take them, you won't be left just being an employee number. You get out what you put in. The company culture is fantastic with everyone being friendly and supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
My big tip would be to do your research and understand what audit actually is and trying to achieve. Then it would be to understand the role effective communication has. A big part of my role is speaking to clients, colleagues and managers and contracting with them. I have to be comfortable asking for help and support. If you arent able to do this, then you will struggle in this job and they wont give you the job. Trust is a big part of the organisation. Managers have to be able to trust you will do your job properly and ask questions. 'Effective communication' is weak catchphrase and i would advise against stating it as everyone makes claims like this. Therefore, my final tip would be to be an individual. Be unique and truely sell yourself and your way of thinking.
