Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves many aspects of engineering principles, when undertaking this apprenticeship you will understand: how a building runs, what equipment allows it to run, why the equipment does what it does and how to fix these components. Within CBRE there is a diverse range of contracts and a lot of experience, this allows the apprentice to grow and gain knowledge from experienced individuals whilst applying the skills they have learnt.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have really enjoyed the program so far, I came from a part time job, to working full time 7:30 - 4 Monday to Friday, to me this was a massive bonus as I came from having flexible shifts to fixed shifts. This allows me to plan ahead which has never been an option for me. I am surrounded by a great team and supported by my engineer on site to learn and consolidate skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The main skill I have learnt is the key behaviors in a workplace environment this skill is very valuable as it is applicable in most work places. I have also began to increase my knowledge on plant equipment (HVAC, Boilers, Switch boards ...), in this industry building a foundation of knowledge on plant equipment is vital for prosperous career.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My program has been great from the CBRE side no issues at all, the one issue I have had was with the college that I attend with lack of staff/staff illness. But the structure CBRE had in place to guide me through my probation period was spot on !
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Throughout my time within CBRE my employer and the team I work with has helped massively. There's no sense of being dropped into the deep end due to the structure that CBRE lays out for its apprentices. CBRE provides ways to get help with anything you need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As touched on earlier there where some hiccups during my time at college with lack of staff. Apart from this the training provided has been great, the first year has included basic hand skills and an introduction to mechanical/ electrical engineering.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
So far it has allowed me to apply my hand skills and some basic mechanical skills to my everyday working life however the majority of the skills I use on a day to day basis have been picked up by experience at work through shadowing my engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I attended a Christmas party last year which involved us having a meal at a hotel in reading then going on a barge down the river thames, with an open bar ! it was alot of fun.

Why?
I think CBRE is a great company to work for as they value their employees. It is a very welcoming and exciting environment to work in, as CBRE grow bigger and bigger winning more contracts every year its definitely the place to be if you are looking for an apprenticeship or just a change.
