Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves many aspects. I do reporting at the start of the week, and then followed by process running and getting involved in ad hoc requests and analysis. I occasionally run some models too, and interact with business partners across our function.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy our programme a lot, there is a lot to learn but there's also lots of support for graduates. We have montly early career sessions where we can interact with others on our programme but also do stuff outside of work too. I am thankful that my team understands that I need time for my apprenticeship, and are willing to accommodate to my needs.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt lots whilst doing this role. I have become intermediate with using excel, from not knowing anything at all to using shortcuts, creating new reports and models, and also making files more efficient and simpler to use. I have also developed my public speaking skills, with presenting a trade update, and leading some smaller team meetings.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Our induction was really good and structured, and I think overall there is a structure in place - which we all follow, but as each apprentice is on their own journeys it difficult for everyone to keep in touch - or for a more rigourous structure to be in place.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my manager - who is willing to help me with everything. Cannot complain!

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

At the beginning there was little to no support - as it was not made clear where or when we can get it. But following my progress checks it has been easier to ask for help, and I've had additional support calls when and as I've needed it.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I definitely think my qualification helps me perform better as it provides much needed context to the role I'm currently working in. By improving my technical skills, particularly because my prior degree has no relation to what I am currently doing.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is an early careers social society which I am part of. But there are also more informal networks that conduct regular events - even within my smaller team where we do social activities. As far as I am aware, we have no professional networking events in place - unless its a university fair.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend TJX Europe to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I think its a really good place to work - especially for someone starting out in their early career. There's lots of training and opportunities to work in every aspect of the business. The staff are really helpful, and essentially want to see you succeed.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TJX Europe?

I would definitely recommend reading about the retail industry, and increasing your commercial awareness. I would also recommend reading about TJX, and what they stand for as a company, and what charities they're involved in. The more passionate you are about learning and being curious about the business the better.
