Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Learning about the role of solicitors across each of the different practice areas. This includes undertaking specific tasks and reviewing progress with a supervisor. Tasks include drafting, reviewing contracts and attending client meetings.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. Under the guise of our supervisors we have been allowed to contribute to real work with real implications. In my personal experience, this has included actually speaking to a client during a call, something which I don't think you would be able to do at a lot of other firms.

I have developed a great understanding of the role a solicitor plays in each of the different practice areas. Furthermore, the internship has given me a feel for what the culture and general ethos at the firm is like.

Lots. Our supervisors are all very friendly and approachable. There is a real sense that no question is a silly one and this makes you relax and ease into the scheme.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Amazing. The culture is very consistent across the firm. Everyone is very approachable and willing to take the time out of their day to speak to you and answer questions. The atmosphere is one of collegiality and support.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
This scheme has far exceeded my expectations. Not only have I gained a tangible insight into the work of a commercial law firm, but I have been able to confirm with confidence that DLA Piper is the type of firm I want to work for. I would recommend this scheme to everyone interested in a career in law.

What advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
Give it a go. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The application process can be daunting but the firm understands this and gives you more than enough opportunity to show them what you have to offer. There is no one size fits all approach and the diversity of thought and culture across the firm is celebrated.
