Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently with the Part 147 Quality Manager. In this placement I conduct internal Audits of our engineering training at the Global Learning Academy. Day to day activities include prepping for audits, conducting opening meetings, meeting with stakeholders, conducting audits of various elements of the training and referring to legislation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is fantastic I really enjoy the rotational nature of the programme getting to experience a wide range of business functions. Whilst also having the opportunity to build a strong network around the business. Every function I have had the pleasure of working in has a big focus on apprentice development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have particularly developed my auditing knowledge and skills whilst in this placement. I have been lucky enough to be enrolled in some external training courses run by the Civil Aviation Authority where I have been able to develop my skills necessary to complete audits. I gained a wealth of experience from the instructors.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is fairly well organised. My cohort are the trail blazers of this course so we have had the opportunity to feedback our opinions and suggestions to improve the course. The university side of the programme is again very flexible and we have been able to build a strong report with our training provider.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have received lots of support from my employer whether that is my direct line manager or placement managers that I have been working with. As previously mentioned all the colleagues I have worked with have a strong development mindset and they are keen for apprentices to develop their skills.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive plenty of support from my training provider and they understand the nature of our course being different to a typical degeee therefore they are very flexible with learning hours and also deadlines. If we needed extra study time the university would also facilitate extra sessions for example or extra materials to support our learning
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There is definitely some overlap between university modules and the work I complete in the workplace. It has been very useful to learn about some models and theory’s that are used within the placement. Some of the more reflective modules although don’t directly link the the work I have completed are still useful in development.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work there are a number of extra caricular activities that I could take part in. Particularly events with our charity flying start in partnership with comic relief. There are always some great fundraising activities on offer for example charity rugby tournaments, skydiving, the London marathon. There’s plenty we can get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think British airways is a fantastic company to work for. Every manager I have worked with is passionate about apprenticeship development and exposure to the real business. This is really refreshing to see that the typical apprentice label does not apply at this organisation. The opportunities for career and personal development are great.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Advice for applying to British airways would be to research the orangisatikn and also the course you are applying for along with having a passion to work in in the aviation industry. Highlight your communication and flexibility skills as no two days are the same in the industry. The biggest part of advice would be to be yourself.
