Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My overall role consists of actively using our accountancy software to update our bookkeeping, completing VAT returns and forming working papers to finalise year end accounts. Therefore, day-to-day I am uploading client records and working on spreadsheets while alongside having the responsibility of answering admin calls from clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme due to working with a supportive and inclusive company that is always growing and evolving. I also love the work I am completing due to my interest in accountancy and finance as I see it as a strong career and one I can keep progressing within.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I believe I have strengthened my communication skills and professionalism through interactions with clients either by email, phone calls or face to face. I have learnt many new mathematical and english skills through studying in my apprenticeship for example new excel formulas and accountancy terminology.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very well structured as we have times and dates for our upcoming learning courses months in advance. In work, we also have work planners and checklists to complete after jobs to help us stay organised with who's doing what job and when.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a great deal of support from my employer with regards to my apprenticeship. For example, I am provided with a learning and development mentor who I have regular meeting with to ask for advice from. I also have paid study days from work the day prior to my exams to help manage stress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have quarterly meetings with my training provider who is a massive help with my questions to completing the admin side of my apprenticeship such as writing up my objective assignments and filling in my OTJ hours. First Intuition are also very quick to respond to my queries via emails.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have now completed my AAT Level 2 and can actively see how my qualification helps me to complete my tasks within my work. For example, my gained knowledge on double entry bookkeeping and the purchase ledgers all relate to the work I do and having background knowledge on topics like bank reconciliations makes it quicker and easier to understand when I am being shown one for one of our own clients.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
My work provides big social events for christmas and in summer and then some smaller scale activities to celebrate retirements or new people joining the team etc. We often get together to raise money for various charities as well which can lead to group walks and bake sales etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DJH to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would highly recommend DJH due to their abundance of support and team work environment within the work place. I believe they genuinely care for their employees as it can be shown through all the provided social events and also a free mental health platform should anyone want to use it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DJH?
Not to worry about having zero experience or background in accountancy everyone has to start somewhere and you you will be very supported while doing so. Also staying organising is a must to balancing both work and studying so try your best to have a routine and structure.
