Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Water and wastewater design and build projects for United Utilities and Irish Water. Developer Services work for NI Water
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the work I do and the people I work with. My colleagues are aware of the apprenticeship route and know that it is important to pass on their knowledge and experience to me whenever possible.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, most of, if not all of the skills I use day to day have been developed/built on during my 3.5 years at Jacobs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is structured well in terms of my work and University balance. 4 days a week I am working and 1 day a week I am in Uni. It can get busy around deadline and exam season but that is expected when being an apprentice
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
More than enough support. Again my colleagues help me day to day and make sure to pass on knowledge etc. When looking for specific work my employer listens and helps give me the experience I am seeking as best they can
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Ulster University is good at providing support when it comes to my course. I always feel like I am well prepared for my exams and assignments when the time comes. Most lecturers are also helpful in trying to help out where they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some modules in University are helpful towards my work however most of them don't apply to what I do day to day, however that is just the nature of civil engineering as there is many avenues you can go down and have to cover at the start of the qualification in University.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of Social events spread throughout the year that I think cater to everyone's interests. There is a social committee that organises these events and put out polls regularly to get feedback

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Jacobs to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great work environment both professionally and socially. I feel like I develop every day and my colleagues act in my best interest to try help me progress in my career also.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jacobs?
For apprentices I would say do your research on Jacobs and Civil engineering in general. Showing an interest and having a base understanding of civil engineering in general will set you apart from others immediatley.
