Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in 6 month rotational placements around site and work with different engineering teams. Day to day I am supporting engineers with tasks and work this can vary task by task. One day a week I attend University to complete modules in my degree.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme and placement work a lot. However, university has become more of a challenge as the teaching isnt as supportive/helpful as I expected.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt to have better communication skills through email and IM message. I have developed my technological skills from using a laptop everyday and working from home etc, I have developed new skills on software like Excel for example.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I really like the structure of the apprenticeship, moving around site in the 6 month placements enables apprentices to gain experience across a wide range of teams. Then being in your exit role at the end of the apprenticeship enables enough work and time to be able to do our dissertation.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have a wide range of support available from different teams, including mental health and financial support etc. Many of these support systems can be found on the Intranet page we have. We have Skills Coaches who are able to support us at anytime and we can ask questions to.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is support available at the uni however as the teaching isnt that good it means I have to use this support and take extra lessons each week. The uni do need to improve their teaching ability as learning the content is hard.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I find the content we learn in uni does transfer across to the placement work we have. It can help if we do calculations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I do STRETCH activity's which support the local Barrow community. We also have social activities like the Christmas Ball and Summer and Winter conferences we go to to network with other apprentices.

BAE Systems provides a lot of support and has a lot of benefits as an employer, we have a competative salary and flexi time work schedule which can improve life around work too. BAE are a fantastic company and I feel proud to work for BAE Systems.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make the application page as detailed as possible, make sure before you apply you have some work experience in the field you are applying for that you can speak about in your interview. Make sure you have prepared for your interview and know facts about the company you can speak on.
