Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
I am currently on placement in Data & Analytics and I am working on a Project Management Plan for a Data Fluency Campaign.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoyed my first year placement but I don't like my second year placement. Early careers are helpful and I enjoy things more outside of my placement, such as university and STRETCH assignments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt new areas of Project Management through university and have applied this in the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a training plan that we review quarterly, so I would say well-structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I feel like my line manager isn't the most supportive, but that's because I would rather go to other people than bring my problems to him. Early careers are very supportive, and I appreciate their help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Sometimes I feel like they don't provide much support, and when you ask them questions, they just reply with riddles. This isn't helpful when you are already stressed with the assignment. They also often miss questions that are asked in the Q&A section on Canvas.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My university course provides a lot of theory and background knowledge that I can apply in placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I host PM&C Networking Sessions every six weeks that are a great way to get to know each other in the cohort. I'm sure there are opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities, however I am busy outside of work so don't go looking for these.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It depends on the placement, but during my first year placement I felt so supported and welcomed into the team, and the support from the business itself is great in terms of pensions and shares.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Gain as much experience as you can before applying, for example doing other jobs. I was a waitress before this which massively helped with my social skills.
