Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In my current role as a Home Ownership Officer within the Billing and Consultation team, I’m responsible for a wide range of tasks that revolve around leasehold management and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. On a day-to-day basis, a big part of my job involves preparing and issuing Section 20 and Section 20B notices in line with the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. I also handle the consultation process with leaseholders and shared owners, making sure everything is legally compliant and clearly communicated.
Another key part of my role is calculating and issuing both estimated and actual service charges, ground rent, and shared ownership rent. This includes major works charges, which can often lead to more complex queries or disputes. I regularly work through financial disputes and provide guidance on service charges or leasehold matters, aiming to resolve any issues as smoothly as possible.
I also focus on income collection—maximising the recovery of service charges, rent, and major works payments—while supporting customers by offering debt advice and helping them understand what welfare benefits they might be entitled to.
On the more technical side, I authorise final accounts using our housing system (Northgate), and make sure that the data and billing are accurate and aligned with lease terms and legislation. Every day brings a different challenge, but it’s a rewarding role that balances financial, legal, and customer service responsibilities.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I genuinely enjoy my apprenticeship programme and feel that it’s been a really valuable experience so far. It’s given me the opportunity to learn while working in a real housing environment, which has helped everything click into place so much more than if I were just studying on its own. I get to apply what I learn in real time—whether that’s understanding legislation, improving customer service skills, or developing a better grasp of housing systems and processes.
What I really appreciate is how the programme supports both my professional and personal development. I’m constantly learning something new, and I feel a real sense of achievement as I progress. It’s also been great to see how the work I do directly benefits residents, which makes the learning feel even more meaningful.
The balance between on-the-job experience and structured learning works really well for me, and I’ve had a lot of support from both my employer and training provider. It’s definitely given me a clearer career path, and I feel motivated and excited about continuing in the housing sector in the long term.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting my Housing and Property Management Level 3 apprenticeship, I’ve definitely developed a range of new skills while also strengthening the ones I already had. One of the biggest areas of growth for me has been my understanding and application of housing legislation, especially around leasehold management. Whilst I am already working in Leasehold Management, alot of assignments have touched based in that area and improved my knowledge and skills which I have been able to apply in my workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, I’d say my apprenticeship programme is well-organised and has a clear structure that supports my learning and development. From the start, I was given a good understanding of what to expect—both in terms of the learning modules and how they link with my day-to-day role. The training provider sets clear deadlines and learning outcomes, which helps me stay on track and manage my time effectively alongside my work responsibilities.
I also appreciate how the programme blends practical, on-the-job experience with more formal learning. The topics we cover in the apprenticeship often tie in directly with tasks I’m working on at my job, which makes the learning feel relevant and useful. Regular check-ins and support from my assessor have also made a big difference—they’re always available to give feedback and guidance when I need it.
There’s a good balance between independence and support, and I feel like the structure of the programme has been designed to help me succeed without being overwhelming. It’s clear that both the training provider and my employer are invested in helping me get the most out of the experience
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’ve received a really good level of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship. From the beginning, they’ve been understanding about balancing work responsibilities with my studies and have created a supportive environment where I feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I’ve received strong support from my training provider throughout my Housing and Property Management Level 3 apprenticeship with CIH. From the very start, they’ve been clear about the structure of the qualification and what’s expected at each stage, which has really helped me stay organised and focused as I work towards finishing in May 2025.
My tutor has been really supportive—always available to answer questions, provide detailed feedback on assignments, and guide me through areas I find more challenging. The regular reviews and check-ins have kept me motivated and helped me stay on track with my learning. They’re also great at making sure the coursework links back to my day-to-day role, so everything I’m learning feels relevant and practical.
Overall, I feel that my training provider genuinely wants to see me succeed, and their support has been a big part of my development so far. I feel well prepared and confident about completing the qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification has really helped me perform better in my role. The Housing and Property Management Level 3 apprenticeship has given me a much deeper understanding of the housing sector, especially when it comes to legislation. A lot of what I’ve learned in the qualification directly applies to my day-to-day work.
Overall, the qualification has been a really useful foundation, and it’s definitely helped me grow into my role with more confidence and competence.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I personally have not been involved in any extra-curricular activities in my work place however there have been professional networking events to encourage staff to take on apprenticeships and growth in their career.
