Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am an electrician and we do may jobs from filing, cutting and drilling, to terminating. A day to day basis can consist of many different things as you can be given a variety of different jobs, different days therefore you are not always doing the same thing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy my programme. I enjoyed the transitions from different places and placements as it has allowed my to experience and work in different sectors of the business. However, I am not as good with college as we haven't had the staff to teach us what we need to know and may things have been left till last minute with us having no staff some days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt/developed skills as I have worked with many different people over the course of my time, who possess different skills therefore I have been able to gain new skills and develop existing skills due to working with different people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
In terms of our placements and other jobs like write ups, the programme is well organised and structured as we have learning assistant where we can upload our work, and with regular meetings, we can talk over our progress and any health and safety concerns we may have. However, I feel that the college we go to (that is a apart of our programme), could be structured a little better.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive a good support as we have regular 12 weekly reviews to talk over any concerns we may have and if we need any support. We have many helplines that we can use if we need support, and our team leaders are a very good point of contact if we need support with anything, for example support on a job, the team leaders are always happy to help. Similarly with anyone you work with, they are always very supportive in the way they are always happy to help always allow us to speak to them if we need help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We receive support from our training provider as we have reviews to allow us to speak about our progress and if we need to improve in any aspects. Our team leaders also fill out a sheet that we review over during our review which states information around behaviours, skills etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel that my qualification helps me perform better in my role as it allows to me to do different jobs that I have not done before which allows me to perform better as I am gaining new skills and knowledge. I also feel with some of the work set, it allows us to use our knowledge and transfer this to the work set, and any feedback we get, allows us to gain knowledge we didn't know and use that to perform better in our role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are many different extra curricular activities to do at work, for example they do an annual Christmas and summer day which allows everyone to meet up and a get together. They also do extra-curricular activities like training which has been set by the company. They also send out emails on different extra curricular activities you can get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE Systems is a great place to work with many different opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge. There are many different job roles you can get involved in and many ways to progress and work your way up in the business. I would recommend as I believe that this is the best place to work and it is a great way to help the local area.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
My advice would be to, if coming from school, let your teachers know what you want to do when leaving as this is what I did and my personal development teacher sat me down and helped me prepare potential interview questions and allowed me to get used to how to answer a interview type question professionally. I would say for anyone trying to join is to do your research about BAE and what BAE is like in the local area so you can gain an idea about the business, and really delve deep into finding out what role you would like to join and see what it would entail. I made sure to learn about the business and practice interview style questions whenever i had spare time to give myself the maximum preparation, so that for when the interview came around, I was prepared.
