Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a machinist, for this i have to run the machines. I am currently on the conventional section so this includes setting up fixtures, clocking them, then running programs. Sometimes these programs are programmed by us. then I will have to deburr and inspect the part.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme a lot. After the initial first year of learning, you are out in the business and move around making each placement different and allows you to learn the different methods of machining.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes i have learnt lots of new skills from being able to use basic tools to learning how to run cnc machines. I have also devloped my english and maths skills though the college side of the apprenticeship

I think the program is very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I revive a lot of support from my employer and if i ever need help i can also contact my line manager who will ensure i am brought to the right person to receive any of the help that i need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has given me to knowledge to better upstand what i am doing outside on placements. an example is learning what the G and M codes mean for programming so i have a better understanding when reading a program.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have taken part ion UK skills which was done through the business. whilst doing this i developed a lot of skills and also learnt how to use CAM systems. this was a very a good opportunity. I have also had the opportunity to enrole onto the HNC.

It is a very good company to work for with lots of benefits. you are also looked after.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure that you prepare properly, don't just show up to an interview without having done any preparation work. I would also make sure that i have done some work experience before applying as this can make you go a long way and help to answer the questions
