Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As a Technician Apprentice, my current role is to undertake placements in different departments around the business and get involved in learning opportunities through real life work and responsibilities. On a day to day basis, this includes any given tasks by my team, as well as guided learning and shadowing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The programme has its high points and there is a good future in it, at the moment there is a lot of learning and it can be intense, this can be enjoyable but also a lot of time and dedication is required to get the most out of it, and sometimes finding that balance is tricky.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Without prior experience in engineering, through these placements I have developed newfound knowledge and terminology as well as experience in dealing with problems and understanding the skills required to be a good engineer. There has been a lot of emphasis on learning the necessary skills to become competent by the time I end my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There is a general structure to the entirety of the programme, but the organisation on a specific level can sometimes be lacking, but this is because of how busy the programme can get and there is always a lot going on and so things take time to be communicated.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
If I ever need support, I always feel comfortable to seek this and I think that is the most important thing. Whether this is when I am at college learning or on a placement, everyone is always happy to listen and to help in the best way possible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is a lot of support from my training provider and I have no complaints in regards to the support I have received to date, and this shows very well in how I am on track and doing well in meeting my qualification targets.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel it helps me feel like I have a sense of belonging in my role and that I have worked hard to get to this point. From a technical standpoint, it has given me a good foundation of knowledge which I can then improve on by being on placements and learning from qualified engineers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is an array of extra-curricular activities that are advertised and that I am able to get involved in at work, there is a lot of networks and very exciting opportunities through these activities that can contribute to my personal and professional development. There is no shortage of this.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
From my experience at BAE Systems, I felt welcomed and I quickly settled in, and with the right attitude the benefits are second to none. It leads to a career that is hard to get anywhere else, and I couldn't see myself anywhere else, and I would want that same opportunity for my friends if they tried BAE Systems.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I think the most important thing is to be yourself, you don't need to have engineering or technical experience before, as long as you are confident and you can show an appreciation of the opportunity being given and show commitment and dedication to wanting to start a challenging but rewarding career then you would be the right person to apply to BAE Systems.
