Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Graduate role in commercial finance, with key responsibilities in month end processes, forecasting in Rolling Plans and Budget for 3 different P&L lines.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

A good part of this programme is to be able to rotate around different teams in finance to gain broad experience.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Excel skills, P&L story telling skills, Variance analysis and business partnering with colleagues outside of finance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very structured, as you spend 1 year in each team gaining practical experience. Then it is organised to have time off for exams too.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer is flexibile for when I have wanted to take my exams which has been helpful. There has been a lot of restructuring in my current finance team which has led to a bit less support.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Time off for exam leave, 4 days per exam. Time at work when working on apprenticeship skills & behaviours

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Whilst the theoretical exams are necessary, I believe I have learnt th most through practical experience in my roles. Although the exams have helped with accounting knowledge and variance analysis.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I was on a social committee in my first year which organised events for the team. I was also involved in the fundraising campaign for red nose day.

Yes

Why?

Good working culutre overall, great office facilities and good opportunities for professional development.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TJX Europe?

The grad scheme is good but the exam undertaking is a lot so it is a big commitment and requires sacrificies in personal life to have the time to study.
