Overall Rating

2.8 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

2.5/5 - Overview of Role
3/5 - Skills Development
2.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As technicians it is different for each placement but as an overall we are the middle men and we are essentially supposed to be the jack of all trades. The work is okay for the most part.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The programme is not very enjoyable, I think the company focuses on the wrong aspects of apprenticeships, the placements have not been set up in an organised way and the programme does not provide us with the skills we really ought to be learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt no new skills, but I have developed on some. I did a previous apprenticeship to this which in all honesty, taught me a lot more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Unfortunately I believe the programme is not structured well at all. People do not get the opportunities others may do and with how things are going with the Exit Role situation I think they do not seem to care about what their employees want.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I think the support we receive is quite good, depending on who its from. The line managers for our scheme do not seem to care for us but the correct support is readily available and they are then willing to do everything they can to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We are taught up to a pass which i find ridiculous to then expect to come in from 730am to 5pm whilst every other scheme do less hours. I think we should be allowed to learn online or leave earlier as long as we are excelling.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I believe my qualification helps me to perform better in my role, however, I think we rely heavily on qualifications when experience should matter more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are various extra-curricular activities to get involved with but they are not advertised very well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
No
Why?
If they removed exit roles, which it seems like they are doing, I would not recommend it. If they do allow us to pick our exit roles, as they should, they I would recommend it. If you went on linkedIn to find a role, you are not restricted or forced into a role you do not want to do.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Ask as many questions as you can and be sure to read up or ask those you may know working for the company at the time for advice on the state of things.
